Hackers have a pretty tarnished reputation and, if you think about it, that's probably always been the case. Has "hacking" anything really ever been looked on as being productive, positive, or beneficial? Prior to the information age, "hacking" was probably most often something done with machetes and, before that, swords. And unless you were say, hacking your way through dense jungle foliage, there's a pretty good change that what was getting hacked was human limbs.

A Day to Remember

We occasionally shout out some pretty silly national days here at the IT Insights Blog. (Hey, this is a rough gig. YOU try coming up with something new to write about three days a week for an entire year, Mr. Intelligent Trousers.) For example, in additional to being Feb. 27, today is also Anosmia Awareness Day, National Kahlua Day, National Strawberry Day, National Polar Bear Day, and National Retro Day.

Today is National Kick Butt Day, which is alleged to occur each calendar year on the second Monday in October. In 2018, National Kick Butt Day happens to also fall on the same day as a holiday created to honor the "discovery" of the Americas by Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. We're not sure what to make of the convergence beyond the fact that Columbus has come in for a bit of a historical butt-kicking in recent years.
