The introduction of IBM’s “Watson” brings with it a new world of IT possibility. Watson is a technology platform that is able to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data. It uses natural language processing and machine learning to receive and execute direction, which is why it is considered today’s premier platform for cognitive business. Watson’s ability to rifle through years of stored information in just a matter of seconds is truly remarkable. IBM has taken the steps necessary provide peace of mind to its users, but any advancement in technology can bring up the question of information security.

No matter where you look, there's a role at some level of the organization for a skilled IT pro. So if you're transitioning to IT from a different career path, then you may not even need to switch employers — you may just be moving to a new department, or taking on a new job role. According to the 2016 Salary Guide for Technology Professionals, from Robert Half, the global leader of professional staffing services, there are more jobs than people to fill them. areerBuilder and Economic Modeling Specialists International report that there is a significantly greater number of job IT job postings than hires per month.

The shortest distance from point A to point B is a straight line. When talking about the fastest way to get from point A to point B, things aren’t so cut and dried. For instance, if you wanted to go from Paris, France to New York City, USA in a straight line, you would have to drill a tunnel through the surface of the earth beneath the ocean. That would, of course, take longer than hopping on an airplane and flying a curved route over the Atlantic Ocean.

You can't build a brick wall without any bricks. You could say that bricks are the most essential element of brick wall building. Along those same lines, you can't build a career in IT without actual IT knowledge and skills. If you intend to get a cloud computing job, for example, then you have to invest the time, energy and study required to learn what cloud computing is and how it works. On the other hand, even if you know cloud computing backward and forward, that knowledge alone may not be enough to keep you employed, or even get you hired in the first place.
