Some of you no doubt live your lives under the mistaken impression that there has never been a sequel to the hugely successful Walt Disney Pictures animated classic The Lion King. And when we say "mistaken," we mean almost willfully ignorant. There have actually been not one, but TWO sequels to The Lion King, and there is currently a Lion King cartoon on the Disney Channel that literally features Rob Lowe as the voice of heroic Simba. A friend of the blog shared a rather alarming story the other day about his impressive capacity to slug back diet sodas. He downed a 32-ounce serving of Diet Dr. Pepper during his regular work schedule, then met up with friends at a local chain restaurant after work. While there, he added four more 32-ounce beverages to his tally for the day, bringing his total diet soda consumption to a staggering (and no doubt sloshing) 160 ounces, or 1.25 gallons (4.75 liters) in about 12 hours.

It's either a sign that doomsday is nigh, or maybe just a clever marketing ploy that got everyone, however briefly, to think about one of the food service industry's oldest still-thriving brands. Earlier today, just a few weeks away from winding up its 60th year in operation, International House of Pancakes, better known to many by the acronym IHOP (that's "eye-hawp"), announced its intention to become International House of Something Else. Wait. What?! Say it isn't so!
World Record Holders

There are a lot of world records for silly things. Did you know, for example, that German citizen André Ortolf holds the world record for the most jelly eaten with chopsticks in a single minute? Who comes up with these things? Why is it the record for most jelly eaten, and why with chopsticks, and why in only a single minute? Did anyone force André to stop after setting the new record — 716 grams — or was he like, "I think I'll just finish this jar."
