We use the phrase "golden opportunity" to describe a set of circumstances when a number of independent parameters have all become aligned at the right moment to open up a window in which to accomplish something uniquely beneficial. One moment, there's no real chance of accomplishing this or that desirable end goal. Then, often out of nowhere, various elements align to create an unlikely situation in which a desirable outcome is there for the taking.

It's not always easy to step into a gladiatorial arena as the new guy and, well, sort of rise up and overwhelm everybody else. Picture yourself dressed up like Kirk Douglas in Spartacus, or Russell Crowe in Gladiator. You have some basic armor and your native brawn and agility, whatever that amounts to. You get some rudimentary training. You're issued some weapons. And then all of a sudden it's lions, and tigers, and bears! (And other guys with swords!) Oh my.

Good things often happen for those who speak up. Sometimes calling attention to a problem is the best and most direct way to get help from those who are in a position to give help. Sometimes it's the only way. Last week, TestOut Continuing Education (@TestOutCE) got a tweet shout-out from a young man who had turned a shot of his Pro certification into his Twitter cover photo. He needed help finding a job and putting his certified skills to work.

Many moons ago, when I was young and had promise, I found myself in charge of 35 workers. It being the case that I was young and inexperienced, my duties were pretty basic. I made certain that people showed up for work on time and accomplished their assigned, while trying to prevent office supplies from mysteriously disappearing.
