A 'Sideways' Story from a Wayside Techie
Posted by TestOut Staff on
Two years ago I joined the GoCertify team, and it’s been a great experience. I enjoy my coworkers, working environment, and writing about certification training. My biggest challenge has been learning the lingo. Like most computer users, I understood basic terms like mouse, keyboard, and screen, but was completely in the dark when it came to the more tech-specific words and terms. My interactions typically unfolded along the lines of the famous clip from King of the Hill where a consternated Hank exclaims, "Do I look like I know what a j-peg is?!"

Give IT Another Go

Things don't always turn out according to plan. Three years ago, the ruling Scottish National Party in Scotland held a referendum to determine whether Scotland should withdraw from the United Kingdom and pursue its own course as an independent nation. With nearly 85 percent of voters weighing in, independence was rejected in favor of the U.K.-aligned status quo. Today, First Minister of Scotland and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon announced that it's time for a do-over. God-willing (and Parliament-permitting), the Scottish people will have a second chance to say "yes" to independence, sometime in late 2018 or early 2019.

For all my loyal followers (Hi, Mom!) who faithfully read these posts, you know that last week I wrote about how I shamelessly pulled the wool over the eyes of a former boss. I still think it was foolish, but clever of me. In any event, I was telling that story to a colleague who happens to be a big supporter of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He smiled condescendingly, like most people do when I talk, and said that I had used the “EDGE” method of training, a method developed and used extensively by the BSA.
High School Regrets

There are three things I wish I would have known in high School. First, that you need to turn in every assignment to get good grades (oops). Second, that it’s OK to ask out the head cheerleader that you’ve been crushing on for years (give me courage). Third, that IT certification is very important to future employment.
